Technolgy Center

On Saturday August 20, the Hispanic Technology Center in Flint hosted a Community fun day and Our Lady of Guadalupe Church had a table present with information and holy cards to pass out to the people. Many children came by and I was happy to give them a Holy Card, and they seemed happy to have received one as well. As I left, I took this picture of a mural painted on the side of their building. What caught my attention was this painting of the old church on Carpenter Rd. It has since been torned down, but my earliest memories of the church were in this building.

From their website, I selected the following information and want to share it here:

In 2001, the AGIF Flint Chapter established the Hispanic Technology & Community Center (HTCC) with the help of a federal grant and the support of Mott Community College. The HTCC is located on the East side of Flint at 2101 Lewis St. This building was donated by Citizens Bank and was rehabilitated with grant dollars procured by MCC.

The HTCC is staffed with a full-time bi-lingual Program Coordinator, a receptionist, two AmericCorp volunteers, two work-study students and two community volunteers. MCC provides technological equipment, support and oversight.

Programs available through the HTCC include computer based educational services, bi-lingual instructions in English as a Second Language and Spanish as a Second Language, Spanish translation services, and the highly successful tax preparation service.
